Yann-Bêr Calloc'h est né à l'île de Groix le 21 juillet 1888 dans une famille de marins-pêcheurs. Il s'engage à la déclaration de guerre de 1914, est nommé aspirant, puis sous-lieutenant, il trouve la mort le 10 avril 1917 à l'entrée d'un abri dans une tranchée du bois d'Urvilliers (près de Saint-Quentin). Criblé d'éclats d'obus, il fut tué sur le coup et enterré au cimetière de Cerisy. Le 8 juillet 1923, son corps fut ramené à Groix, où il repose désormais. Àr en deulin constitue l'essentiel d'une oeuvre dont la première publication erronée et trop hâtive, eut lieu chez Plon en 1921. Les éditions de « Dihanamb » en donnaient une version définitive reclassée par Y. Le Diberder suivant le désir de Calloc'h.
